On the morning of 29 September, the preparatory meeting for the master play “Xiong Foxi” was held on the second floor of the Foxi building. The master play is a joint production of the publicity department of the CPC Committee and the Performing Arts Center of the Shanghai Theatre Academy (STA). Hu Min, deputy secretary of the CPC committee of STA, attended the preparatory meeting.
This play is re-created and adapted by Mr Sun Zuping according to the early script "Our President Xiong", with Mr Xiong Yuanwei being the general director, and Xiong Mengchu, the grandson of Xiong Fosi, being the executive director. The cast and production team include alumni, teachers and students of STA. As the producers and actors, they all work in this master play with their love and respect for former president Xiong Fosi and their special feelings towards STA
Xiong Foxi was one of the pioneers and founders of Chinese drama and the former president of the Shanghai Theatre Academy. STA’s motto of "learning to be a person first, leering to be an actor second" on the gate of the Red Building is the maxim left by Mr Xiong Fosi and passed down from generation to generation as the guideline for teaching and learning, which has been engraved in the hearts and bones of all STAers as a true saying for treating people, doing things and learning to be an actor. Mr Xiong Fosi had a great influence on not only STA, but also the drama art and drama education as a whole.
At the end of the meeting, all members of the crew laid flowers in front of the statue of Xiong Fosi in front of Foxi Building, paying tribute to this lovely and respectable dramatist and educator, and remembering former president Mr Xiong Fosi in our hearts.
