A large-scale academic seminar on "Chinese-Language Film: New Development and New exploration" is successfully held at Shanghai Theatre Academy

On the morning of 21 September, a large-scale academic seminar on "Chinese-Language Film: New Development and New Exploration" was held in the Circular Conference Room of the International Conference Center of the Shanghai Theatre Academy Pujiang Campus. The seminar was sponsored by the “Contemporary Film” magazine under the China Film Art Research Center, College of Film and Television of the Shanghai Theatre Academy and the Film Culture Research Center of the Shanghai Theatre Academy, and was co-organized by the Shanghai Film Association, the Shanghai Film, Television and Theatre Theory Research Association, the China Literary and Artistic Review Base at the Shanghai Theatre Academy and the Shanghai Film Review Society. The academic topics at the seminar included new types and paradigms of Chinese-language film, new narratives and new postures, new definition and new theories, etc. 

The opening ceremony was presided over by Professor Li Zhenlin, Dean of the College of Film and Television and Director of the Graduate School of the Shanghai Drama Academy. Zhang Weiling, Deputy Party Secretary and Vice President of the Shanghai Theatre Academy, delivered a welcome speech on behalf of the Shanghai Theatre Academy, and introduced the construction process of the new Pujiang Campus and the future development plan of the Shanghai Theatre Academy. Zhang Wenyan, Deputy Editor-in-Chief of the “Contemporary Film” magazine, and Zhao Yun, Vice Chairwomen and Secretary-General of the Shanghai Film Association, also delivered speeches.

The keynote speech session was presided over by Professor Wan Chuanfa, Deputy Director of the Film Culture Research Center of the Shanghai Theatre Academy. A number of experts and professors from the China Film Association, Tsinghua University, Beijing Film Academy, Steering Committee on Theatre, Film and Television Education of Ministry of Education, Beijing Normal University, Film Art Center of China Federation of Literary and Artistic Circles, China Film Review Society, Communication University of China and Nanjing University shared their views and opinions.

Experts attending the seminar had an enthusiastic discussion on the "new development and new exploration of Chinese-language film". They not only summarized the acting methods, narrative methods and constitution of different schools of film, but also discussed the impact of digital technology and media integration on the future development of Chinese-language film, and fully considered the new industrial model of Chinese-language film in the perspective of the Silk Road Economic Belt, etc. 

The seminar lasted for two days, with nearly one hundred participants. The seminar gave a comprehensive thought and summary to the current Chinese-film creation in terms of academic theories, placed the Chinese-language film in the world contest for discussion, examined the new breakthroughs in its type, narrative, technology and theme, and sought the new definition and new constitution of the Chinese-language film, thus providing a broader theoretical vision for filmmakers.
