On 1 September, the Shanghai Theatre Academy (STA) holds the 2019-2020 Academic Year Opening Ceremony at the STA Experimental Theatre. STA leaders Xie Wei, Huang Changyong, Hu Min, Zhou Yin'e, Zhang Weiling, Tang Litu, Yang Yang Yang, Liu Qing and Zhang Jiachu, as well as the leaders of the various departments and colleges, attended the ceremony and took seats on the stage. The ceremony was presided over by Zhang Weiling, Deputy Party Secretary and Vice President of STA. Relevant heads of various departments, colleges and functional offices of STA and all new students of Class of 2019 and their parents also attended the opening ceremony.
Before the ceremony began, from the side of the stage, the representatives of retired faculty members of STA stroke the bell from the site of the former Hengbangqiao Campus. Wang Su, member of the CPPCC National Committee and full-time vice-chairwoman of the STA Trade Union, joined by Xue Guanglei, Zhang Zhiyong and Tianyuan of the STA Department of Acting, acted as the reciters and told all the freshmen about the development history of STA and conveyed the community spirit of STA with their silver voice and deep feeling.
The ceremony officially began in the solemn and passionate national anthem. The STA leaders put on the school badge for the representatives of new students.
Three student representatives of Class of 2019, namely, Fan Hongjun (BA student), Zhou Xuebing (MA student) and Danilo Brakocevic (international student from Serbia) from the College of Creative Studies spoke in turn at the opening ceremony.
Dong Jian, deputy director of the broadcasting and hosting major of the College of Film and Television, delegate to the Shanghai Municipal People's Congress and winner of the national Golden Microphone award for broadcasting and hosting, spoke as a teacher representative.
Wang Jingchun, a Class of 1995 alumni of the STA Department of Acting and winner of Best Actor awards at both Berlin Film Festival and Tokyo Film Festival, spoke as an alumni representative.
Huang Changyong, Deputy Party Secretary and President of STA, welcomed the arrival of the new students of Class of 2019 on behalf of the school. He congratulated 689 new students on putting on the cultural imprint of STA, and analyzed the composition of new students university-wide with the big data of new students. The launch of the new Pujiang Campus this year has also truly realized the correspondent distribution of the four campuses and four discipline and specialty groups. STA adheres to excellence of education, and upholds the teaching method that combines character education and professional training. Students may improve and enrich themselves through the cultivation of reading habits, the improvement of writing ability and the enhancement of critical thinking.
At the end of the ceremony, the school flag handover ceremony was held. In the singing of the school song of STA, Xie Wei, Party Secretary of STA, passed the school flag from the representatives of the current students to the representative of the new students. All the new students of Class of 2019 stood up and took a solemn oath to the school flag, expressing the artistic morality and family and national feelings of STAers.
