On 1 September 2019 at 9 am, the Shanghai Theatre Academy (STA) held the Pujiang Campus Opening Ceremony & New Students Move-in Ceremony in the first floor foyer of Building 3 of the STA Pujiang Campus.
Xue Pinghui, Chief Superintendent of the Shanghai Municipal Education Commission, Yang Demei, Vice Mayor of Minhang District, responsible persons of relevant departments of the Shanghai Municipal Education Commission, relevant building contractors and business entities, leaders of the Pujiang Town and Pujin Community where the Pujiang Campus is located, leaders of STA, responsible persons of relevant departments/colleges and relevant affiliated entities of STA, teachers and students of the STA College of Film and Television and College of Creative Studies and parents of students, representatives of mainstream media such as Xinhua News Agency, Jiefang Daily, Wenhui Daily, Xinmin Evening News, Shanghai TV and representatives from all walks of life participated in the opening ceremony to jointly witness this historic moment of milestone significance in STA’s development course. The opening ceremony was presided over by Zhang Weiling, Deputy Party Secretary and Vice President of STA.
At the beginning of the event, a solemn flag raising ceremony was held, followed by singing of the national anthem. Musical Theatre Center, College of Chinese Traditional Opera and College of Dance presented wonderful performances with distinctive features. Professor Wang Su, full-time vice chairwoman of the STA Trade Union, together with other teachers, brought the poetry recitation New Life.
Li Zhenlin, Dean of the STA Graduate School and dean of the STA College Film and Television, and Liao Mingyang, student of MA Hosting Arts 2019, made speeches successively as the teacher representative and new student representative respectively. Yang Demei, Vice Mayor of Minhang District, Xie Wei, Party Secretary of STA and Xue Pinghui, Chief Superintendent of the Shanghai Municipal Education Commission, addressed the ceremony.
At 10.18 am, Xue Pinghui, Chief Superintendent of the Shanghai Municipal Education Commission, Yang Demei, Vice Mayor of Minhang District, Bian Jiajun, CEO and Deputy Party Secretary of the Shanghai Construction Group, Xie Wei, Party Secretary of STA, Huang Changyong, Deputy Party Secretary and President of STA, Li Zhenlin, Dean of the STA Graduate School and Dean of the STA College of Film and Television, Liu Zhixin, Director of the STA Admissions Office and Deputy Dean of the STA College of Creative Studies, and student representative Liao Mingyang, jointly pressed the official opening button of the Pujiang Campus. It symbolized the formal formation of the “four centers” campus and optimized discipline distribution under STA’s “13th Five Year Plan”, as well as the opening of a new chapter of STA’s development and the beginning of its new journey in the new era.
After STA Pujiang Campus was commissioned, its function is positioned as the film and television and new media center, and the STA College of Film and Television and the STA College Creative Studies were the first to move in. The campus is located in Pujin Community of Shanghai’s Minhang District. The address is 800 Changlin Road (aka 1 Xuebin Road), covering a land area of 99,791 square meters. The total planned gross floor area is 139,689 square meters, including about 125,689 square meters of above-ground gross floor area and about 14,000 square meters of underground gross floor area. The main buildings include Basic Teaching Building, College of Film and Television College Building, College of Creative Studies Building, library, theatre, administrative building, catering and sports activity center, apartment building for teachers and students, underground civil air defense/car park, etc. The design highlights the functionalities. The main buildings fully demonstrate the characteristics of film and television, with massive open-air theatre for outdoor film and television performances and projections, indoor theatres, indoor large and medium-sized studios screening rooms, recording studios, audio laboratories, broadcasting studios, as well as conference centre and international salon with simultaneous translation facilities at international standard that match STA’s advantages as an international first-class platform type art university, and also sports facilities such as gymnasium and fitness centre with complete functions and equipment.
