On 10 June at noon, the third session of the Teachers' Salon, jointly sponsored by the Trade Union and the Teacher Affairs Department of the Shanghai Theatre Academy (STA), was held in the West Conference Room on the second floor of the Foxi Building. This session of the Salon invited Dr Huang Zhiheng, deputy chief physician of the Department of Gastroenterology of the Pediatric Hospital affiliated to Fudan University, to give a science popularization lecture on the common knowledge in pediatric medicine, with nearly 30 faculty members attending.
During the lecture Dr Huang Zhiheng, with the “prevention and treatment of common diseases in children” as the main topic, introduced four common diseases in young children, i.e. fever, diarrhea, cough and accidental injury, to teachers using humorous language and examples presented with both pictures and texts, and gave detailed explanations on the causes of the diseases, nursing knowledge and misunderstandings about treatment.
Through Dr Huang's face-to-face explanation, the teachers and staff further learned how to correctly deal with children's common diseases at home, and increased medical knowledge. After the lecture, Dr Huang also had a one-on-one question and answer with the participating teachers and staff, and provided professional guidance. Teachers and staff have expressed that the lecture was rich in content, highly practical and targeted, and is greatly beneficial.
The teachers' salon activities aim to better serve the teachers and staff and make it a platform for promoting exchanges, expanding interests and improving accomplishment. In the future, a series of salon activities on different topics will be launched one after another for the benefit of teachers and staff.
