On the afternoon of 21 March, the Shanghai Theater Academy Entrepreneurship Competition 2019 cum the 15th Internet + College Students Innovation and Entrepreneurship Competition was held successfully at the New Space Theatre of the Shanghai Theater Academy. Many current students and alumni within five years of graduation participated in the competition, with a total of 22 teams and as many as 80 participants. The competition also received an entrepreneurship subsidy of RMB120,000 provided by the Jing’an District Human Resources and Social Security Bureau under the “Entrepreneurship Station” empowerment initiative.
The competition invited the relevant leaders, officials, executives, scholars and experts from the Shanghai Student Affairs Center, Shanghai Employment Promotion Center, National College Students Entrepreneurship Training Steering Committee, Shanghai Angel Investment Club, Shanghai Technology Entrepreneurship Foundation for Graduates, Shanghai Theatre Academy, Shanghai Institute of Industry Transformation and Development an Shanghai Theatre Academy Huashan Creative Company to form the expert judging panel. Relevant leaders and persons-in-charge from the Shanghai Jing ‘an District Human Resources and Social Security Bureau, Shanghai Jing ‘an District Employment Promotion Center and Shanghai Theatre Academy attended the event as guests.
At the opening of the competition, the master of ceremony introduced the proceedings and rules of the competition. Then, each team made a six-minute roadshow presentation in turn. The contestants fully demonstrated their respective entrepreneurship projects from the aspects of project content, market analysis, fund operation, team composition, visionary planning etc. The projects covered a wide range of areas, including film and television production, drama and traditional Chinese opera, environmental governance, cultural and creative brand, pet industry, event planning, education and training, social media and e-commerce and so on. Many of the projects also accurately focused on current social problems and government policy advocacy.
After the judges gave the scores and comments, Xu Jingling, a student of MA Theatre Directing 2015, stood out from all competing teams and won the first prize (RMB20,000 of entrepreneurship subsidy). Besides, two teams were selected for the second prize (RMB15,000 of entrepreneurship subsidy), four teams for the third prize (RMB10,000 of entrepreneurship subsidy) and six teams for the good performance prize(50,000 of entrepreneurship subsidy).
On the spot, whether they were teams with only entrepreneurship ideas or teams already in stable operation, all showed their enthusiasm for entrepreneurship, and let the audience see the difficulties and challenges on the road of entrepreneurship. Expert judges put forward constructive opinions and suggestions to each team according to their own field expertise and practical experience. These masters and forerunners in the field of entrepreneurship gave recognition to the overall level of this year’s entrepreneurship projects of the Shanghai Theatre Academy, which featured a stronger line-up of entrepreneurship teams and more diversified perspectives and contents of entrepreneurship.
The Shanghai Theatre Academy will continue to meet the practical needs of students for entrepreneurship by carrying out various kinds of employment and entrepreneurship activities and regularly holdings entrepreneurship guidance lectures. In the meantime, the policy support of government and funding support of angel investors and financing platforms will also become a solid backing for young entrepreneurs, and provide a good platform for students and alumni who have entrepreneurship dreams.
