"The Storm in Our Blood" directed by Shen Di, student of Shanghai Theatre Academy's College of Film and Television, won First Prize of Cinéfondation Selection at Cannes Film Festival

The jury of the Cinéfondation Selection of the 71st Cannes Film Festival announced the winners of the Cinéfondation prizes on 17 May 2018, with the Second Prize going to the “The Storm in Our Blood” (aka U ma) from the Shanghai Theatre Academy.

The French Embassy in China and the French Consulate-General in Shanghai have sent the message of congratulations: “We are really glad in the Embassy that one Chinese student won a prize in France!”

The Cinéfondation prizes were the first to be announced among all awards of this year’s Cannes Film Festival. On the afternoon of the day, Bertrand Bonello, French director and head of the Cinéfondation jury, announced the winners of the Cinéfondation Selection. “The Summer of the Electric Lion” from the Universidad de Chile, Chile won the First Prize, and “The Storms in Our Blood” won the joint Second Prize with “Calendar” from Moscow School of New Cinema, Russia.

This year, the Cinéfondation Selection consisted of 14 feature films and 3 animation films, chosen out of 2,426 entries coming from 512 film schools around the world. The Cinéfondation allocates a €15,000 grant for the First Prize, €11,250 for the Second and €7,500 for the Third. The winner of the First Prize is also guaranteed the presentation of his/her first feature film at the Cannes Film. The Cinéfondation of the Cannes Film Festival was created in 1998, aiming to lend its support to the new generations of filmmakers around the world.
