Ms Wang Wanna, a graduate of STA, won Best First Leading Role Award of the 28th Shanghai Magnolia Dramatic Performing Arts Award

On the evening of 30 April 2018, the 28th Shanghai Magnolia Dramatic Performing Arts Award Gala was held at the Shanghai Grand Theatre. Ms Wang Wanna, a graduate of the BA Acting (Shaoxing Opera) Program 2013 of the College of Chinese Traditional Opera of the Shanghai Theatre Academy (STA), was awarded the Best First Leading Role Award.

Ms Wang Wanna is specialized in the young male character and follows the Xu Yulan school of Shaoxing Opera performance. She was taught by Ms Wang Xiuyue, a famous Shaoxing Opera actress, and Ms Qian Huili, a contemporary Shaoxing Opera performing artist. During her study at STA, she studied a series of traditional plays and also participated in the creation and production of many original plays. She was awarded the second prize for the student group of the 2013 CCTV Shaoxing Opera Competition and awarded the New Artist Award of the 2017 Shanghai Stage Art Works Selection and Showcase. During her study at STA, she constantly ranked among the best of her year in both professional and academic courses, and was awarded the STA Comprehensive Scholarship and the STA Professional Scholarship for a number of times. In 2017, under the guidance of Professor Tian Mansha, the Shaoxing Opera class created the original graduation production “Twelve Roles”, in which Ms Wang Wanna played the role of Juror No. 8 for which she won the Best First Leading Role Award.

This time, Ms Wang Wanna winning an important award of the Shanghai Magnolia Dramatic Performing Arts Award is the outstanding achievement of STA’s College of Chinese Traditional Opera in talent training for Chinese traditional opera. STA’s College of Chinese Traditional Opera will continue to explore the talent training model in the new era, and strive to cultivate more outstanding talents for the world of Chinese traditional opera.
