Mr Shang Changrong, Honorary President of the China Theatre Association and famous performing artist of Peking opera, was invited to open the "Master Lecture” series of the College of Chinese Traditional Opera of the Shanghai Theater Academy (STA) in his capacity also as STA’s guest professor.

The lecture was presided over by Mr Huang Tunwei, Deputy Dean of the STA College of Chinese Traditional Opera. Ms Li Peihong, Dean of the STA College of Chinese Traditional Opera, introduced Mr Shang Changrong's artistic achievements as well as the purpose and significance of the "Master Lecture” series, making full paving and preheating for the guest speaker’s talk. Warm applause broke out from time to time in the auditorium, and the atmosphere became even more heated immediately after Mr Song Changrong started talking.
Mr Shang’s talk focused on the following topics.
- How to inherit?
- How to learn from the tradition?
- How to activate the tradition?
At the end of the lecture, Mr Huang Tunwei, Deputy Dean of the STA College of Chinese Traditional Opera, made the concluding remarks to summarize and wrap up the lecture. He appraised Mr Shang’s lecture as "the voice of a venerable elder providing earnest and inspirational teachings; the words of a master providing unreserved and truthful insight; the voice of the nation directly expressing the artistic confidence."
The lecture was very successful. Many teachers and students from other universities including even universities outside of Shanghai came to attend the lecture after hearing the news and because of admiration for Mr Shang Changrong. The students of STA are also full of expectations for the "Master Lecture" series of the College of Chinese Traditional Opera, hoping that there will be opportunities to listen to the teachings of more famous and highly accomplished masters and that more and more high quality lectures of this kind will be held.
