On the afternoon of 10 April 2018, accompanied by the officials of the China Theatre Association, the nine-member Vietnamese theatre delegation visited Shanghai Theater Academy (STA). The delegation was composed of the Central Committee members of the Vietnam Theatre Association and members of the Vietnam Theatre Association, who are all important directors, playwrights and managers in Vietnam.
Mr Yang Yang, Vice President of the Shanghai Theatre Academy, Mr Gong Baorong, Director of the Foreign Theatre Research Centre, Mr Lu Ang, Dean of the Directing Department, Ms Li Peihong, Dean of the College of Chinese Traditional Opera, Mr Li Wei, Deputy Editor-in-Chief of the Editorial Department, Ms Zhang Yunlei, Deputy Director of the International Exchange Center, and Ms Lou Yan of the International Exchange Center, participated in the reception and exchange activities.
Mr Yang Yang, Vice President of the Shanghai Theater Academy, first introduced the overall situation of the Shanghai Theatre Academy, including the history, current development, student recruitment, international students and international exchange and cooperation. After that, Mr Jiang Menghe, Central Committee member of the Vietnam Theatre Association, introduced the overall situation of the Vietnamese drama institutions. Drama institutions in Vietnam usually have five to six faculties, including acting, directing, stage design etc, with theatre and film in the same faculty. Film, acting and directing are popular majors in Vietnam, while traditional Vietnamese dramas are relatively unpopular. The two sides exchanged views on their respective teaching system, duration of study and traditional drama teaching, and the talks were cordial and friendly.
