From "teach by verbal instruction" to "teach by example" - Teacher's version of "Wild Field" will soon be landing on STA Art Festival

Recently, as an important performance at the 7th Shanghai Theatre Academy Performance Season and Shanghai Theatre Academy Drama Festival 2018, the teacher's version of “Wild Field” is under intense rehearsal.

"Wild Field" is regarded by the academic and artistic circles as the most mysterious work among all the early drama works of Mr Cao Yu. Shanghai Theater Academy’s re-production of the teacher’s version of "Wild Field" this year aims to explore and find the original emotions of Mr Cao Yu when he wrote "Wild Field", and to inject more humanistic thinking to “Wild Field”.

According to Professor He Yan, Dean of the Acting Department, production/re-production of classic works by acting teachers to show the whole process of character/role creation is an important initiative in the comprehensive reform of actor training, and it is also an important measure to build an internationally first-class acting major. The rehearsal and performance of the teacher's version of "Wild Field" is not only an opportunity for the front-line teachers to gain a deeper understanding of their own performance teaching in the artistic practice, but also an extension of the new form of performance teaching by the teachers. Through the character/role creation by themselves in the theatre, the teachers teach students important links and methods such as how to analyze the roles and how to experience the roles, and how to express the roles in a more direct way, thus enabling the students to have a deeper understanding and experience of production creation and character/role creation. In addition, it also enables the students to understand the specific functions of the director's work, learn how to work together with the director in the process of character/role creation, and get an overall understand that theatre is an art of comprehensive practice.
