On 23 March, Mr Istvan Ijgyarto, Minister of State for Cultural and Diplomacy, Hungarian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade visited the Shanghai Theatre Academy. The accompanying party included Ms Gabriella Szucs, official of the Division of Cultural Diplomacy of the Hungarian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade, Mr Szilard Bolla, Hungarian Consul General in Shanghai, Ms Livia Szentmatoni, Consul (Culture and Education) of the Hungarian Consulate-General in Shanghai, and Ms Fan Li, Assistant to Consul General of the Hungarian Consulate-General in Shanghai. From STA, Mr Yang Yang, Vice President of STA, received the Hungarian guests, together with Mr Gong Baorong, Director of the Foreign Theatre Studies Centre, Ms Zhang Yunlei, Deputy Director of the International Exchange Centre, and Mr Ma Linghong, Dean of the College of Further Education.
On the occasion of the “Budapest Festival” jointly held by the Shanghai Oriental Pearl TV Tower and the Hungarian Consulate-General in Shanghai, the Minister of State for Cultural and Science Diplomacy of the Hungarian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade visited STA for discussion with the STA leader on cooperation matters, accompanied by the Hungarian Consul General in Shanghai Mr Szilard Bolla.
During the meeting, Vice President of STA Mr Yang Yang provided an introduction of STA’s history and current situation to the foreign guests and mentioned that Laszlo Hudez, the famous Hungarian architect, who had left many classic buildings in Shanghai. Mr Istvan Ijgyarto expressed his keen desire for STA to create a play featuring Hudec so as to attract more attention of the Shanghainese people to Hudec and Hungary. Vice President Mr Yang Yang expressed his full support to this idea of cooperation and asked the College of Further Education to liaise with the Hungarian side to follow up on this project.
Besides, Vice President Mr Yang Yang proposed that as STA is sorting out and studying the Eastern European dramatic literature, we should consider expanding the directions of cooperation to give equal support in the area of literature. Mr Istvan Ijgyarto expressed that Hungary has always attached great importance to culture and also hopes to identify suitable platforms in China to demonstrate the charm of the Hungarian arts. He affirmed that the Hungarian side will continue to support the Sino-Hungarian exchange.
