On the afternoon of 16 March 2018, Ms Wang Peiyu, famous Peking Opera actress for elderly male character and alumni of the STA Chinese Opera School, was invited back to the alma mater for the plaque unveiling ceremony for the "Wang Peiyu Studio" held at the White Palace Theatre. Mr Wang Mengyun, former principle of the STA Chinese Opera School and famous Peking Opera artist for elderly male character, Mr Han Yongsheng, CPC General Branch Secretary of the STA Chinese Opera School, Ms Tang Hexiang, Vice Principle of the Shanghai STA Chinese Opera School, and some representatives of the middle management team and key teachers of the school attended the plaque unveiling ceremony as the VIPs. Together with the teachers and students of the STA Chinese Opera School, they jointly witnessed this moment of great significance and listened to the themed workshop of "Yu's Happy Peking Opera Class", a talk of unique characteristics by Ms Wang Peiyu as a famous artist of Shanghai.

Ms Wang Peiyu graduated from the STA Dance School in 1999 and is one of the outstanding graduates of the "Class of 1992". In recent years, she has been not only active on the Peking Opera stage inheriting and carrying forward a large number of classic repertoires of Peking Opera, but also bold to innovate and explore in her efforts to popularize Peking Opera. With her wonderful presentation and powerful appeal, she has attracted a large number of people, especially, young people in ever increasing numbers, to go close to Peking Opera because of her. People who "did not realize that they like Peking Opera" also come to the theatre and begin exploring the wonderful world of Peking Opera.

"Wang Peiyu Studio" is the first master (famous artist) studio that the STA Chinese Opera School has set up. In recent years, the STA Chinese Opera School has actively coordinated the internal and external resources and pushed forward the multi-channel integration of teaching and practice, with the introduction of master (famous artist) studios being one of the approaches. The STA Chinese Opera School hopes to bring masters (famous artists) into the classrooms through setting up the master (famous artist) studios so as to allow the artistic styles to be maintained in the teaching and also build a practice platform for the students to test the teaching outcomes.
