Major-specific qualifying exams of STA 2018 undergraduate admissions begin

On 26 February which was just after the Spring Festival holidays of the Year of Dog, the campus of the Shanghai Theatre Academy (STA) was filled with the festival atmosphere. The major-specific qualifying exams of STA's 2018 undergraduate admissions formally began. On the day, the first batch of examinees who were applicants of the Acting Program (Theatre, Film and TV) and Broadcasting & Professional Hosting Program, their parents, the entire STA leadership, members of the Examination Committee, examiners and more than 60 journalists from various mainstream media organizations gathered on site for the annual "grand art exams" of STA.

The examinees who were applicants for the Acting Program (Theatre, Film and TV) and Broadcasting & Professional Hosting Program started to arrive at STA from not later than 7 am standing by for the first day of this year's art exams. The passionate, young and beautiful faces of the examinees revealed their desire for artistic pursuit. The exam of the Acting Program (Theatre, Film and TV) began at 8.30 am, and the exam of the Broadcasting & Professional Hosting Program started at 10 am. The overall duration of STA's major-specific qualifying exams this year is two weeks from 26 February to 11 March. The exams of other subjects will also begin in succession.

At 9.50 am, the press conference of the 2018 student recruitment and exams was held in the meeting room of the Foxi Building. STA leaders Mr Lou Wei (Chairman), Huang Changyong (President) and Hu Min (Vice Chairman), as well as the heads of admissions office, president’s office and communications office, shared the situation of this year’s application and examination as well as the relevant policies and STA's education philosophy with the journalists and media representatives and answered their questions.

This year, the number of applicants for STA's undergraduate programs reached a record high. By the closure of online application at 9 pm, 31 January, the number of applicants increased from 21,782 person/times of last year to 30,929 person/times of this year, accounting for an increase of nearly 9,000 person/times. In recent years, the number of applicants has been increasing year by year. From 2012 to 2017, the number of applicants increased from 11,448 person/times to 21,782 person/times, which was almost doubled. This year, STA plans to recruit 464 full-time undergraduate students in 22 majors (directions).

With attention and direction of the university leadership and with the cooperation of all relevant offices and departments, the exams on the first day were handled in an orderly manner, and all of the exam procedures proceeded steadily.
