On 20 January 2018, the Shanghai Theatre Academy (STA) held its first middle management meeting 2018 at the New Space Theatre, which was attended by all members of its senior management team and middle management team. The meeting was chaired by Mr Lou Wei, Chairman of STA.

There were three items on the agenda of the meeting: (1) summary and deployment of work in their respective areas of responsibilities by the members of the senior management team, (2) 2018 Creation Working Meeting, and (3) construction of party conduct and clean administration as well as anti-corruption work.

First, Professor Huang Changyong, Vice Chairman and President of STA, deployed STA’s work in the present and next phases. In the area of discipline construction, we will face the 5th round of national discipline assessment in 2020. Objectively speaking, we have certain opportunities and advantages, but also face some very big challenges, so the task of discipline construction is very heavy. The construction of first-class disciplines and first-class specialties is the major work that we must grasp in 2018, and it is a very important work. How well we do in the “Peak & Plateau” program will decide the results of the 5th round of disciplinary assessment. As for the development of an educational institution, the most important is the internal capacity building. What is the most critical to our university is the development of two teams, i.e. a high-level team of teaching staff and a high-level team of managerial staff, of which either is indispensable. President Huang Changyong was confident that the work in 2018 would be well done with the joint efforts of all of us involved, hoped that we would achieve the desired goals and, preferably, exceed the expectations.

Then, Vice President Gong Baorong talked about his thoughts from the three aspects of discipline construction, teaching team and academic exchange, and made the summary and deployment for the discipline and research work. Vice President Zhang Weiling made the deployment and arrangement for the infrastructure construction, safety and security, logistic support and, in particular, safety and security during the vacations. Chief Financial Officer Zhang Jiachun raised the requirements for the budget implementation and audit rectification.

Chairman Lou Wei made the concluding speech at the meeting, in which he summarized the work in 2017 and deployed the work in 2018. He asked everyone to sum up the past and make the future. All teachers and staff of STA should work together with concerted efforts and strive for more accomplishments. In order to achieve greater achievements in all aspects in 2018, STA will carry out a major campaign of research, planning, implementation and inspection in an extensive and in-depth manner throughout the university.
In the afternoon, the meeting held a special session on the work of literary and artistic creation. Mr Hu Jinjun, Deputy Director-General of the Publicity Department of the CPC Shanghai Municipal Committee, Mr Wu Xiaoming, Artistic Director of the Shanghai Municipal Administration of Culture, Radio, Film and Television, and other senior officials also attended. During the meeting, Chairman Lou Wei provided a report on the creation work on behalf of STA. Pu Cunxin, Meng Bing and Wang Xiaoying were appointed by STA as part-time professors. Chairman Lou Wei presented the certificates of appointment to them on behalf of STA. A plaque presentation ceremony was also held marking the establishment of seven expert studios of Pu Cunxin, Meng Bing, Wang Xiaoying, Luo Huaizhen, Tian Qinxin, Wei Haimin and Liu Qingyi. President Huang Changyong announced the establishment of the Shanghai Theatre Academy Youth Theatrical Troupe and the appointment of Tian Qinxin as its Artistic Director. Meng Bing, who is Vice Chairman of the China Theatre Association, made a speech as the representative of the newly appointed part-time professors. Mr Hu Jinjun, Deputy Director-General of the Publicity Department of the CPC Shanghai Municipal Committee, made a speech and fully affirmed the active exploration and gratifying results of the Shanghai Theatre Academy in the area of literary and artistic creation.
