Orientation meeting of Hainan University Peking opera minor class & teaching workshop is held at STA College of Chinese Opera

On the morning of 27 November, the orientation meeting of the Hainan University Peking opera minor class and teaching workshop was held in the multimedia conference room of the College of Chinese Opera of the Shanghai Theatre Academy (STA). Zhang Weiling, Vice President of STA, participated in the event together with the relevant representatives of the STA College of Chinese Opera, including Li Peihong (Dean), Liu Chunyou (Party Branch Secretary), Hang Dunwei (Deputy Dean) and Jin Xiquan (Deputy Dean), as well as the teaching staff (experts and teachers) for this class. From the College of Arts of the Hainan University, Wang Qiang, Party Branch Secretary, and Zhong Heng, Deputy Dean of College of Arts), participated in the event, together with 10 students take Peking opera as the minor. The meeting was presided over by Liu Chunyou, Party Branch Secretary of STA College of Chinese Opera.

During the meeting, Li Peihong, Dean of STA College of Chinese Opera extended the welcome to the students on behalf of the leadership. She said that the Hainan Provincial Government strongly supports the friendly cooperation between the Hainan University and STA which provides a good learning platform to the students, and that the students should improve their professional competence and increase the awareness, understanding and learning of the art of Peking opera through this opportunity and strive to achieve further improvement in the area of Peking opera upon completion of the study. She also hoped that the students will bring the acquired knowledge back to Hainan and let more people learn, understand and promote Peking Opera.

Wang Qiang, Party Branch Secretary, College of Arts, Hainan University, sincerely thanked the teachers of STA for the welcome and expressed the hope that the 10 students from the Hainan University will achieve good outcome in their study and bring the acquired knowledge back to the Hainan University and let the teachers and students of the Hainan University feel the charm of Peking opera. The 10 students of the Hainan University introduced themselves and expressed their determination to learn Peking Opera in front of the leaders of both universities.

At the end of the meeting, Zhang Weiling, Vice President of STA, made a speech. He said that the senior leadership attaches great importance to this cooperation, especially, the Hainan Provincial Government whose strong support and facilitation is of great significance to carrying forward the art of Peking opera. He put forward his requirements to the 10 students for their study hoping that all of them will study hard during this period of time and will be able to join their teachers on the same stage to give a Peking opera performance back at the Hainan University in December. At the same time, he also put forward the requirements to the teachers for the teaching and class management and asked that the teachers should be innovative in terms of the training approach and set up student files to observe and track the progress of the 10 students and give them the most attentive guidance and instructions.
