Friendship promotion event for female professors of three universities is held successfully

On 21 November 2017, a group of female professors from Shanghai University, Shanghai Theatre Academy and Shanghai Conservatory of Music got together at Shanghai Conservatory of Music for a friendship promotion event. Nearly 40 female professors from the three universities, who make contributions to Shanghai in various areas of specialty and teaching positions, participated in this event. Ms Wang Xiangqun, Executive Vice Chairman of Shanghai Education Trade Union and Director of Women Affairs Committee, and other relevant people from Shanghai Education Trade Union attended the meeting. On the side of Shanghai Theatre Academy, Ms Wu Min, Vice Chairman, Mr Zhang Weiling, Vice President and Chairman of Trade Union, Ms Zhang Jiachun, Chief Financial Officer, and Ms Wang Su, Executive Vice Chairman of Trade Union, attended the event together with the female professors from Shanghai Theatre Academy.

The event was presided over by Ms Zhang Jiachun, Chief Financial Officer of Shanghai Theatre Academy and Shanghai Conservatory of Music. On behalf of the leadership of Shanghai Theatre Academy and Shanghai Conservatory of Music, she extended a warm welcome to the female professors present at the event. In her speech, she affirmed the important role of the female professors and female experts in the education and teaching work of their respective universities. On behalf of the universities, she welcomed and thanked all female professors for coming and hoped that the female professors would, on the platform of the Friendship Association of Female Professors, bring together their power in the field of science, culture and art and continue to give full play to their strengths and remain positive and uplifting as always.

During the free discussion session, Ms Gu Xiaoying, Research Fellow and Deputy Director of Academic Affairs Office, Shanghai University, Ms Wu Yue, Professor, PhD supervisor and Deputy Dean of College of Computer Science, Shanghai University, Ms Xu Jiahua, Professor, PhD supervisor and Head of Costume and Markup Teaching Office, Department of Stage Design, Shanghai Theatre Academy, Ms Wu Aili, Director of Planning Department, Shanghai Theatre Academy, Ms Zhong Yanle of Musical Theatre Centre, Shanghai Theatre Academy (former Associate Artistic Director for Entertainment Performance, Shanghai Disney Resort), Ms Yu Danhong, Professor, PhD supervisor and Dean of Music Education Department, Shanghai Conservatory of Music, and Ms Guo Shuhui, Professor, PhD supervisor and Head of Chinese Traditional Music Theory Teaching Office, Department of Musicology, Shanghai Conservatory of Music, made speeches on behalf of their respective universities in which they shared their thoughts and ideas with reference to their own work. They discussed how to balance the relationship between work and family from different angles and shared the stories of giving full play to their expertise and skills in the education and teaching work and of making achievements in own fields and making contributions to the construction of Shanghai and the country. The words of the female professors were cordial, warm and humorous, delivering an optimistic, self-confident, harmonious and uplifting spirit in a pleasant and warm atmosphere.

Ms Wang Xiangqun, Executive Vice Chairman of Shanghai Education Trade Union and Director of Women Affairs Committee, Ms Hu Min, Vice Chairman of Shanghai Theatre Academy and Mr Zhang Weiling, Vice President of Shanghai Theatre Academy, extended the greetings to all female professors present at the event, paid tribute to the women professors for their hard work and dedication to the work of education and teaching and for the perfect balance that they have been able to maintain between family and career, and expressed the gratitude to them for their contributions to the development of Shanghai and cultivation of future talents.

After the meeting, Ms Wang Su performed a lively poetry reading in a wonderful voice and deep feeling, and the charm of voice and language took the event to a climax. Ms Song Song, Associate Professor of Acting Department, Shanghai Theatre Academy, sang the song “My Motherland” to her own music accompaniment, and Ms Li Tao, Associate Professor of Musical Theatre Department, Shanghai Conservatory of Music, sung a song a cappella. Both songs sang out, once again, the praise of life in the heart of the female professors, as well as their imagination of the future life.

In the evening, the female professors from the three universities watched the original opera “He Luting” performed by Shanghai Conservatory of Music. The wonderful performance left a deep impression on the female professors. They all expressed the desire to organize more intercollegiate friendship promotion activities to provide the female professors with an additional platform for exchange and an additional opportunity to show their charm.
