On the morning of 23 November, the working meeting for discussion on the STA-Ali Film School was held in the ground floor conference room of the Foxi Building at the Shanghai Theatre Academy (STA). Lou Wei, Chairman of STA, Zhang Jiachun, CFO of STA, Fan Luyuan, Chairman and CEO of Alibaba Pictures Group Ltd, Chang Yang, Chief Human Resources Officer of Alibaba Pictures Group Ltd, Liu Ning, General Manager for Key Projects and Emerging Industries of Fosun Group, and Chen Yan, Chairman of Shanghai Pictures Co Ltd, attended the meeting and shared their comments and opinions. The persons in charge of the relevant functional offices of STA also attended the meeting. The meeting was presided over by Huang Changyong, President of STA.
First of all, on behalf of STA, President Huang Changyong expressed the welcome and gratitude to the representatives of the business for their participation in the meeting. Since the framework agreement on cooperation was signed on 8 November 2016, the three parties, i.e. STA, Alibaba and Fosun, have had very good communication and interaction, and the Shanghai Municipal Education Commission and other superior authorities have also followed closely on the progress of this project, in the hope to be able to explore and identity a “third model” for Shanghai’s comprehensive reform in higher education through this university-enterprise cooperation. President Huang provided an update to everyone on all the preparatory work thus far for the STA-Alibaba Film School and explained the proposed master plan for the establishment of the new film school and the relevant organizational structure. Then, the meeting discussed the matters concerning the development positioning of the STA-Alibaba Film School, the establishment of the STA-Alibaba Film and Television Education Development Foundation and the STA-Alibaba Film and Television Education Promotion Centre and the recruitment of students and teachers in the future, thus offering the direction for the construction of the new campus in the next stage. The representatives of Alibaba Pictures and Fosun Group all expressed that their companies will provide full support and coordination to STA for the planning and establishment of the new film school.
In his concluding remarks, Chairman Lou Wei stressed that we must always adhere to the leadership of the Communist Party of China, take a down-to-earth approach to push forward the preparatory work for the STA-Alibaba Film School, establish the positioning of goals and actively explore and innovate, and capitalize on the strength of enterprises to jointly run a new film school that is oriented towards the future and featured with the characteristics of the era, thus making contribution to the cultivation a new generation of filmmakers and film educators.
