The ninth of September by the lunar calendar is China's traditional festival "Double Ninth Festival", which is also the traditional festival of our country for respecting and caring for the elderly. On the occasion of this “festival for the elderly” and “festival respecting the elderly”, the campus of the Shanghai Theatre Academy (STA) is permeated with a deep feeling of respecting the elderly.
In order to promote STA’s fine tradition of respecting and caring for the elderly, the various colleges, departments, divisions and offices of STA has carried out a wide range of activities in a variety of forms to pay respect to and care for the elderly. The acting department, stage design department, department of dramatic literature, college of creative studies, dance college, college of traditional opera, college of film and television, department of public education, college of continuous education, office of party committee cum president’s office, discipline inspection committee, organizational department, publicity department, trade union, academic affairs office, personnel office, development and planning office, library, editorial office, performance centre, logistic and security office, capital construction office, state-owned assets office, equipment office, finance office and audit office etc have respectively organized different kinds of activities to send the holiday greetings and best wishes to the 400 retired staff, such as inviting the retired staff back to the “parents’ home” to celebrate the festival together, visiting them at their homes, posting or delivering letters of holiday greetings to them, sending them holiday goodie bags, visiting those hospitalized, and organizing for them to visit to the new Pujiang campus under construction to “see the results of reform, see the economic development and see the social progress”.
Party Secretary Lou Wei participated in the “parents’ home visit” jointly organized by the six offices, i.e. logistic and security office, capital construction office, state-owned assets office, equipment office, finance office and audit office, for their retired staff. On behalf of the STA leadership, he extended the holiday greetings and extended the lofty respect to the retired staff. He said: “Respect for the elderly is a traditional virtue of our Chinese nation, and we will accomplish our mission only if we keep to our original inspiration. STA would not have achieved all the achievements and development without the joint efforts and hard work of its staff from generation to generation. It is everyone's efforts that have made the STA brand shining. Now, although retired, the old comrades maintain a sunny mentality, enjoy good life, enjoy old age, continue to contribute positively to STA’s education development and continue to contribute their efforts and wisdom to caring for the next generation, helping the young teachers to grow and carrying over the spirit of STA. I hope that the old comrades will continue to show care and support to the work of STA as they always do and make new contribution to STA’s development in light of their capabilities. I sincerely wish the retired old comrades a happy Double Ninth Festival, good health, long life and happy family!”
