From 28 to 29 October 2017, sponsored by the Shanghai Municipal Education Commission, and organized by the Graduate School of the Shanghai Theatre Academy (STA), the 10th Yangtze River Delta Academy Forum of Postgraduate Students in Theatre, Film and Television was successfully held at STA. Professor Gong Baorong, Vice President of STA, attended the opening ceremony and delivered a speech. Professor Gong Baorong introduced that the STA Academic Forum of Postgraduate Students has always been adhering to the purposes of self organization and self-management of the students. He encouraged the graduate students to renew their academic concepts, break through the barriers of their own research and thinking, and hoped that the participating postgraduate students will gain knowledge and friendship and improve the level of their theoretical research through this forum. This forum invited Professor Yang Naiqiao of Fudan University to give a keynote presentation, and invited Professor Zhang Zhenhua of Fudan University, Professor Jin Danyuan of Shanghai University, and Professor Wu Baohe of STA to be the guest commentators. The forum was chaired by Professor Li Zhenlin, Dean of STA Graduate School.
By 2017, the Yangtze River Delta Academic Forum of Postgraduate Students has undergone a 10-year course of development. The Yangtze River Delta brand has also won the trust and support of postgraduate students of different universities and injected youthful vigor and academic vitality into the discipline construction of the theatre, film and television studies. The past nine forums were fruitful and generated brilliant achievements. The education commission and other relevant government departments also attached great importance to the forum. Setting its foot in the Yangtze Delta region and reaching out to universities all over the country, the forum has become a well-known platform for academic exchange.
The meeting lasted for two days. During the six paper presentation sessions during the two days, 46 postgraduate students (including 37 MA students and 9 PhD students) from 25 universities nationwide were divided into six groups and made wonderful presentation of their papers on the theme of the studies of the "homesickness" culture in theatre, film and television. They shared their respective process and experience of preparing the paper and aired their own views. The guest commentators expressed their hope that the students will pay attention to the accumulation of basic theories, strengthen the training of such basic skills as the structure of article, such as basic training, explore new topics, dare to discover, have to brave spirit to deny everything and deny one’s self, and be good at observing and understanding the latest academic trends at home and abroad.
As the result of the review and recommendation by the experts, 10 graduate students won the excellent paper award. This year’s the Yangtze River Delta Academic Forum of Postgraduate Students concluded in the prolonged applause. The duration of the forum coincided with the week-long event of “R.A.W! Land” held on the STA campus, which provided a strong artistic atmosphere for the forum, further enhanced the friendship between students from different universities, and stimulated a free blooming of art and artistic spirit.
At the 10-year mark, we are confident that the Yangtze Delta Academic Forum of Postgraduate Students will surely have a more splendid future and bear more fruitful results.
