On 9 October 2017, the project proposal demonstration meeting for “Research on the Training Model for the Cultivation of Art Talents”, a major project in artistic theory of the National Social Science Foundation, for which Professor William Sun of the Shanghai Theatre Academy (STA) is the chief expert, was held on the 4th floor of the STA Library. It is reported that major projects is, at present, the most high-level, most heavily funded and most authoritative project category of the National Social Science Fund. This is also the second time that STA has got the major project listing approval of the National Social Science Fund in artistic theory.
The experts attending the demonstration meeting were Deputy Director-General of Shanghai Municipal Education Committee Gao Deyi, Vice Chairman of Chinese Association of Literary Critics Yu Ping, Director of Theatre Research Institute of China Art Research Academy Song Baozhen, Deputy Director of National Graduate Education Steering Committee for the Art Majors Zhou Xing, STA Vice President Gao Baorong, Chairman of STA Academic Committee Ye Changhai, and Director of STA Playwriting Research Center Lu Jun. The meeting was chaired by Professor William Sun, chief expert of STA. Director of STA Research Department Wu Aili read out the "Notification of Major Project Listing Approval."
Deputy Director-General of Shanghai Municipal Education Commission Gao Deyi made a speech first, wishing the project a great success on behalf of SMEC. The chief expert of the project and heads of the various sub-projects gave their reports separately. The appraisal experts evaluated the research ideas and specific research methods of the project from different angles, and put forward their constructive suggestions. Director-General of International Theatre Institute Tobias Biancone also shared his opinions and suggestions. STA Party Secretary Lou Wei made the concluding remarks about the project proposal demonstration meeting. He is also one of the sub-project heads of this major project.
Professor William Sun, the chief expert, thanked the appraisal experts for their enthusiastic participation, encouragement and suggestions. He pointed out that the insights of the experts were of great guidance to the subsequent studies of the project. He hoped that the experts would continue to follow the project, and expressed that he would definitely work together with the team members in concerted efforts, live up to the expectations, and successfully complete the research tasks of this major project in artistic theory. The meeting was concluded in a warm and friendly atmosphere.
