Warm Congratulations to Shanghai on the Successful Bid to Host the 46th WorldSkills Competition

On 13 October 2017, a message of pride and excitement for the Chinese people came from Abu Dhabi, UAE, i.e. the General Assembly of the WorldSkills International decided unanimously that the 46th WorldSkills Competition will be held in Shanghai, China in 2021.

The WorldSkills Competition is known as the "World Skills Olympics". The bid to host the 46th WorldSkills Competition was an important decision made by the CPC Central Committee and the State Council based on the strategy and overall situation. Before the General Assembly's decision on Shanghai’s bid, Chinese President Xi Jinping made a speech to the General Assembly via video, expressing the firm support of the Chinese Government and Chinese people to Shanghai’s bid to host the WorldSkills Competition and made the solemn commitment.

The expert team selected and sent by Shanghai Theatre Academy (STA) has made a positive contribution to Shanghai's successful bid to host the 46th WorldSkills Competition. The well-known STA expert team has once again completed a meritorious task and demonstrated its professional excellence in a major international event following its involvement in the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games and 2010 Shanghai Expo.

The STA expert team assumed the tasks of language design and guidance, image modeling design, music effect, presentation flow, on-site atmosphere, lighting design and multimedia design etc for the bidding presentation of the Chinese delegation, and provided the artistic consultation and the technical assurance for the bidding work. The STA leaders, including Party Secretary Lou Wei and President Huang Changyong, attached great importance to this grand task entrusted by the CPC Shanghai Municipal Committee and the Shanghai Municipal Government. Under the overall coordination of the Personnel Department, the relevant colleges, departments and functional offices, including the International Exchange Center, Stage Design Department, College of Creative Studies, Acting Department, and Teachers’ Union etc, all cooperated proactively, and a group of faculty members were even directly included as the members of the bidding delegation working on the frontline of the bidding work where the pressure and responsibilities were the highest. These faculty members included: full-time vice chairman of Teachers’ Union Wang Su, deputy dean of College of Creative Studies Liu Zhixin, professor of Film and TV College Wu Honglin, professor of Stage Design Department Xu Jiahua, teachers of Stage Design Department Fan Congbo and Qu Guang (outsourced) and so on. In addition, other faculty members including Peng Yongwen, Wang Yang, Yang Ming (outsourced) and Zhang (outsourced) also participated in and supported the bidding work in different ways.

In order to successfully complete the entrusted tasks, all members of the STA expert team worked tirelessly for nearly three months on a continuous basis and beat the test of the rare heat in the past summer, and finally contributed positively to the work of the bidding delegation and added merits to the bidding presentation with the professional, graceful and refined artistic way of making the presentation which brilliantly showed China's strength and Shanghai’s image, and won well-deserved credit for bringing the “World Skills Olympics" to Shanghai.

After winning the bid, Minister of Human Resources and Social Security Yin Weimin and Mayor of Shanghai Ying Yong met with the STA expert team, fully acknowledging the vivid artistic effect created by the experts during the bidding presentation. President of WorldSkills International Simon Bartley praised that Shanghai has made a wonderful and cool presentation. Director-General of Shanghai Municipal Bureau of Human Resources and Social Security Zhao Zhuping, Deputy Party Secretary of CPC Shanghai Municipal Education and Public Health Working Committee Cheng Danhong and other leaders also praised the bidding presentation as a perfect one and a brilliant achievement, and spoke highly about the work of the STA expert team.
