On the morning of 10 October 2017, Georges Schwizgebel, the world famous animation art master, came to the Shanghai Theatre Academy (STA) and gave a lecture entitled “Animation Conception and Production” to the teachers and students of STA in the Virtual Laboratory.
Born in Switzerland in 1944, Georges Schwizgebel is a famous contemporary experimental animation director. In 1966, he founded Studio GDS where he produced several animated films. The style of his productions is strongly experimental and pays attention to music, with the form of image flow as a major feature. His productions have won various prizes at the Cannes International Film Festival, as well as many other international art festivals in Ancy of France, Zagreb of Croatia, Hiroshima of Japan, Stuttgart of Germany, and Ottawa of Canada etc. In 1992, his production "La course a labime” (The Ride to the Abyss) was praised by the animation film critics World as the “masterpiece of the century”.
This lecture sponsored by the STA College of Creative Studies and Centre of Animation Art was extremely well received by the teachers and students and the Virtual Laboratory was fully packed occupied. Teachers and students had the opportunity to not only see Mr Schwizgelbel’ elegant demeanor, but also get a detailed understanding of the animation master’s creative process and methods, which are greatly beneficial to them for their own animation creation in the future.
