On the afternoon of 29 September, the International Exchange Center of the Shanghai Theatre Academy (STA) held the “2017 New Overseas Students Meet and Greet Party & Mid-Autumn Festival and PRC National Day Celebration” in the Zhongyi Building. Head of International Exchange Center Zhang Yunlei and staff of the Centre gathered together with more than 70 teachers, foreign students and students from Hong Kong, Macau and Taiwan to celebrate the festival.

On behalf of STA, Zhang Yunlei welcomed the foreign students and students from Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan to study at STA, encouraging them to cherish the learning and training opportunities at STA and enjoy their time in Shanghai. She also hoped that the students can become a driving force in promoting the further development of friendship and cultural exchange between China and other countries and regions.

At the party, the teachers and overseas students showed their talents and skills. The students from India, France and Italy gave performances of different forms and styles respectively. The teachers recited an ancient Chinese poem in Mandarin and their respective dialects, not only to show the beauty of Chinese traditional poetry, but also to let students feel the dialectic cultures in different parts of China. There were also interesting games and nice food including moon cakes and pizza at the party. Students got to know and develop a better understanding of each other in a happy and relaxing atmosphere. Finally, the party concluded successfully in the music of “Auld Lang Syne”.

As one of the most prestigious art universities, STA has seen annual growth in its international student population through years of efforts to develop. Currently, there are 138 overseas students from more than 20 countries and regions across the five continents, including 45 degree students, 5 exchange students and 28 students from Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan, as well as 60 language students. Not only the number of students from the developed countries and regions is ever increasing, the number of students from the "Belt and Road” countries and regions has also been growing rapidly over the recent years, thus becoming a new highlight in our work with regard to overseas students. The International Exchange Center of STA will continue to work under the guidance of the national development strategies and the university’s overall development directions, adhere to the "people-oriented" concept, advance with the times and forge ahead, and will continue to expand the scale of international exchange, upgrade the quality of work with regard to overseas students and provide even better services to overseas students.
