On the evening of 6 December, Common Home, a drama created and performed by the Tibetan Modern Drama Company, was staged at the STA Theatre. As a performance paying tribute to the Shanghai Theatre Academy (STA)’s 70th anniversary celebration, this play which was a major historical epic drama created by STA alumni won long-lasting applause and high praise at its alma mater. Mr Dong Yunhu, Member of Standing Committee and Director-General of Publicity Department, CPC Shanghai Municipal Committee, Mr Hu Jingjun, Deputy Director-General of Publicity Department, CPC Shanghai Municipal Committee, Mr Lou Wei, STA Party Secretary, Ms Hu Min, STA Deputy Party Secretary, STA Vice President Gong Baorong and STA Vice President Guo Yu officiated and watched the performance.
The play was staged in Beijing in September. Mr Dong Wei, Vice Minister, Ministry of Culture, spoke very highly about it after watching the performance.
Mr Bai Haotian from National Theatre Company of China, who is director of the play, advised that all members of the creative team and cast of this play are STA graduates and the 70th anniversary of STA provides them with a good opportunity to pay tribute to the alma mater which has for years made devoted efforts in the cultivation and nurture of ethnic minority talents.
Cultivating ethnic minority talents in drama art is a traditional program of advantages that STA has and holds proudly in an important position in its educational history. STA is the three-time winner of the honorary title of National Unity and Progress Model Unit awarded by the State Council. STA started cultivating art talents for Tibetan ethnic minority areas since 1959 when the first Tibetan Performing Art Class was launched at the request of the Tibetan Work Committee and in accordance with the instructions of Ministry of Culture. Since then, STA has run five Tibetan performing art classes, three Tibetan scenography classes and one Tibetan directing class, producing more than 300 Tibetan art talents and making remarkable achievement. On this occasion, Common Home created by STA alumni has opened a new chapter in STA’s culture aid for Tibet.
