On 6 November, the 3rd Asian Theatre Conference co-organized by the Shanghai Theatre Academy, Osaka University, Korea National University of Arts was successfully held at the Shanghai Theatre Academy. Under the theme off Towards a New Conception of Asian Theatre Studies, the Forum aimed at exploring new ideas in drama art, establishing new concepts of drama studies and providing possibilities for diversified drama studies in today's world.
After the opening ceremony, the conference held its first meeting. This conference will last for three days and, in the next two days, the faculties and students attending the conference will continue with the in-depth academic exchanges.
The afternoon of 7 November, the Forum came to an end. At the closing ceremony, the conference organizers presented the certificates of honour to the prize winners.
On the morning of 8 November, the teachers and students from Japan and Korea visited the Shanghai Theatre Academy’s Lianhua Road campus where they observed the Chinese traditional opera classes. During the visit, the Japanese and Korean teachers and students showed a strong interest in Chinese traditional opera performing art. They took pictures and actively engaged in conversation with the Chinese teachers and students of the Chinese traditional opera acting department.
In the afternoon, the Japanese and Korean teachers and students attending the conference held discussion with some of the teachers and students of the Chinese Traditional Opera College affiliated to Shanghai Theatre Academy. During the discussion, the Chinese, Japanese and Korean teachers and students had extensive and in-depth exchanges on the protection and education of traditional opera, as well as the psychological immersion of performers, in their respective countries.
Finally, the Japanese and Korean teachers and students thanked the Shanghai Theatre Academy for its hospitality and looked forward to more exchanges in the future. The 3rd Asian Theatre Conference concluded successfully in the warm atmosphere.
