On 31 October 2015, the 20-member Peking Opera tour performance delegation from the Chinese Traditional Opera School affiliated to Shanghai Theatre Academy Beijing arrived in Zagreb, capital of Croatia after a 20-hour journey, and staged the first performance in the theatre of Confucius Institute at Zagreb University at 7 pm in the same evening, which caused a sensation.
With 70,000 students, Zagreb University is the largest and oldest university in South-Eastern Confucius Institute at Zagreb University was established over 3 years ago and has become an important window and platform for the people of Croatia people to understand Chinese culture and for promoting Sino-Croatia cultural exchange.
Confucius Institute at Zagreb University was the first destination of this European tour organized by China’s National Hanban. The performance attracted a very high level of attention by Zagreb University and was very warmly welcomed by the local audience. The theatre of Confucius Institute that has more than 1000 seats was packed and the atmosphere in the theatre was overwhelmingly warm. During the performance, the audience erupted in warm and prolonged applause from time to time. Enthusiastic audiences went onto the stage after curtain calls to take photos with the performers.
The performance was fully affirmed and highly praised by audiences. Zagreb University and local mainstream media covered the performance in a timely manner and spoke highly about it. The strong and enthusiastic response in the local communities towards the quintessence of China has made the overseas Chinese living in Croatia deeply proud.
