STA's cultural exchange tour show amazes audiences in Newcastle and Sheffield

In the evening of 29 September 2015, the cultural exchange tour show group of the Shanghai Theatre Academy staged its third performance of the UK tour in Newcastle’s Tyne Theatre. The performance began in the warm applause from the audience. Excited an amazed by the wonderful performance, the British audience felt the magic charm of Chinese drama and realized the profoundness of Chinese culture. For cross-cultural communication, this was no doubt a good start.

Newcastle University is one of the famous old universities in the United Kingdom and a member of the renowned Russell Group of universities. It has a long history and is a top research university in the United Kingdom. The performance in that evening was co-sponsored by Newcastle University’s Confucius Institute jointly established by Newcastle University and China’s Xiamen University. Newcastle University’s Vice Chancellor in charge and both the British and Chinese directors President all attended to watch the show and delivered speeches.

In the evening of 30 September 2015, the fourth performance by our culture exchange tour show group in the United Kingdom was staged in the Auditorium/Cinema at the Octagon Centre on the campus of the University of Sheffield.

University of Sheffield was established in 1828. It is one of the top universities in the United Kingdom and is among the world’s Top 100 universities. It is one of the most influential research universities in the United Kingdom and Europe. Before the performance, some members of the delegation were also invited to visit University of Sheffield’s Confucius Institute located in the beautiful and peaceful university campus. The three British and Chinese directors of the Confucius Institute accompanying on the visit provided detailed introduction of the curriculum and activities of the institute since its establishment, and expressed a strong willingness for long-term cooperation and exchange with our Academy.

As night fell, the show began. Members of the Board of Trustees of the University of Sheffield and the Vice Chancellor in charge of cultural exchanges attended to watch the show. The 300 seats were packed with spectators. They concentrated fully to the performances by the actors and actresses and erupted in a burst of enthusiastic applause from time to time.
