Recently, Prof Han Sheng, President of Shanghai Theatre Academy (STA), visited Japan at the invitation of Musashino Art University and Suzuki Company of Toga (SCOT).

Musashino Art University is one of Japan’s leading art institutions of higher learning. On this visit to Japan, Prof Han Sheng met with Mr Tadanori Nagasawa, President of Musashino Art University, Prof Yukio Horio, Dean of Space Show Design Discipline, Musashino Art University, and Mr Koishi Shimpachi who has made important contribution to the academic exchange between the two institutions. STA and Musashino Art University confirmed that the two institutions would continue with the spirit of the cooperation agreement signed ten years ago and add new contents to it in response to the development of the times, and that the renewed cooperation agreement would be signed during Mr Tadanori Nagasawa’s forthcoming visit to STA. The key areas of future cooperation discussed by the presidents of the two institutions included: design discipline studies, image art creation, academic journal exchange, laboratory cooperation etc. Mr Tadanori Nagasawa has confirmed his participation in the President’s Forum to be organized by STA on the occasion of STA’s celebration of its 70th anniversary.

The second destination of this visit to Japan was the village of Toga in Toyama Prefecture for participation in the arts festival which was being held there. The Togo Festival was founded by Mr Suzuki Tadashi, the famous Japanese theatre master. This year also marks the 40th anniversary of Mr Suzuki Tadashi’s arrival at the village of Toga. In recent years, Mr Suzuki Tadashi has worked very closely with STA. He has held workshops at STA on a number of occasions. His play “Cinderella” was staged at the STA Theatre last year. The same play performed by STA students made its appearance at this year’s Toga Festival.
