STA debate team wins runner-up title in Shanghai Debate Competition on International Humanitarian Law Issues for Undergraduates

In the afternoon of 23 May, after winning the runner-up title of the 4th Shanghai Debate Competition on International Humanitarian Law Issues for Undergraduates last year, the debate team of the Shanghai Theatre Academy (STA) entered once again into the finals of this year’s competition and finished with another runner-up title. The competition was recorded by and broadcasted on the Shanghai Education TV Station.

This year’s competition was jointly sponsored by the Red Cross Society Shanghai Branch and Shanghai Municipal Education Commission and organized by the Shanghai Red Cross Youth Centre for Research and Dissemination of International Humanitarian Law with the support of the International Committee of the Red Cross East Asia Regional Office, Fudan University Red Cross Society and East China University of Politics and Law Red Cross Society. The preparation and competition lasted for two months from the prior training on international humanitarian law issues through to the finals. More than 40 debate teams from the Fudan University, Shanghai Jiaotong University, Tongji University, East China University of Politics and Law, Shanghai Marine University, STA and so on participated in the competition.

Having been held successfully for a number of years and with its increasing higher popularity among the participating universities and the high degree of attention paid by them, the Shanghai Debate Competition on International Humanitarian Law Issues for Undergraduates has become one of the largest, most impactful and most high-level thematic debate competitions in Shanghai.
