Department of Theatrical Literature holds teaching seminar on graduation creation and graduation thesis of undergraduate and postgraduate students

On 16 March, the Department of Theatrical Literature held a teaching seminar on graduation creation and graduation thesis of undergraduate and postgraduate students. The entire faculty of the Department of Theatrical Literature, as well as a number of senior professors including Sun Huizhu, Ding Luonan, Shen Weiyuan, Yao Kougen, Zhang Shengquan and Wang Bonan, participated in the seminar. The seminar was chaired by Prof Lu Jun, Dean of the Department of Theatrical Literature.

The graduation creation and graduate thesis are important indicators for the appraisal of the teaching results of the four-year undergraduate program and three-year postgraduate program. The participants discussed actively and put forward their own opinions as to how to optimize the teaching mechanisms for gradation creation and graduation thesis and improve the quality of graduation creation and graduation thesis amongst a wide range of topics. Many teachers made specific and implementable suggestions on the basis of their own teaching practice. The participants agreed unanimously that the on-stage presentation of graduation creation is a teaching component that can never be spared and the university should make greater input of resources in favor of the students of the Department of Theatrical Literature in terms of teaching space and teaching budget. The seminar also had a close study of the graduation creation and graduation thesis of the educational theatre major and recommended the inclusion of world’s literary classics adaption and performance as a means to enrich the content of teaching. As for the graduation creation and graduation thesis of postgraduate students, the seminar made the recommendation to give full play of the function of the relevant working studios, emphasize on personalized teaching and make the best efforts to cultivate qualified postgraduate students with power of thought and artistic capability.

In closing, Prof Lu Jun made a brief wrap-up speech. He expressed that focusing on teaching is a tradition of the Department of Theatrical Literature. The criticism, suggestions, thoughts and initiatives made available at this seminar were all important results of teaching studies. After the meeting, we would submit the minutes of the meeting as a report to the university leader in charge of teaching as well as the relevant functional departments of the university. While ensuring the entire faculty of the Department of Theatrical Literature performs our duty well, we would endeavor to secure the vertical and horizontal support across the university, thereby achieving the further improvement of the quality of graduation creation and graduation thesis of postgraduate students of our department.
