Recently, the Shanghai Science Commission released the evaluation results of Shanghai municipal key laboratories. The Multimedia Performance Virtual Space Synthesis Studio of our university was rated “superior” and successfully passed the evaluation conducted by the Shanghai Science Commission once every three years.
On 12 November 2014, the key personnel of the Virtual Studio made the special report to the evaluation experts about the content development of the Virtual Studio. They presented the research results of the Virtual Studio over the past years to the experts and also provided the detailed interactive demonstrations of the creation and R&D projects, all of which won the unanimous recognition of the experts.
Over the recent three years, with the care and support of the leaders and relevant functional departments of the university, the Virtual Studio has undertaken over 20 projects including 9 national-level research projects and 2 provincial-level key projects, with 11 of them approved for listing. Over the recent three years, the Virtual Studio has obtained 24 patents and software copyrights, published 53 academic theses and 2 books. At the same time, the Virtual Studio has signed cooperation agreement with 7 top enterprises in the performance and entertainment sector and science and technology sector for partnership, established the mechanism of industry-university-research institute partnership with dozens of entertainment and technology enterprises and performance groups, and actively organized and participated in major international and domestic academic conferences as well as collaborative R&D activities. All these were fully recognized by the Shanghai Science Commission and evaluation experts.
In the face of future development, the Virtual Studio will adhere to the concept of integrated innovation of culture with science and technology. It will continue to push forward the collaborative innovation between the research and creation of a university and entertainment enterprises, exploring the application of new technologies in the artistic creation, performance and production and advancing the creation and experiment of new performance and entertainment products as well as the cultivation of new talents for the performance and entertainment industry. Meanwhile, the Virtual Studio will continue its efforts in the constant innovation of the creation tools for performance arts, establish the monographic theatrical art database and promote the integrated development of culture with science and technology.
