Vocal Force, the singing group formed by three university teachers in Shanghai, has given a number of public performances and won a long number of fans since its establishment last year. A few days ago, these three handsome male baritones came to the Shanghai No.9 People’s Hospital where they gave a charity performance for the patients and medical staff. It was the first time in Shanghai for a professional singing group to go into the wards of a hospital.
In the wards of the department of maxillofacial, head and neck tumor on the 12th floor, Vocal Force was singing to the simple accompaniment of guitar. Their authentic bel canto attracted many doctors, nurses and family members of patients to gather in the foyer and listen to their songs. Of the same height of 187 cm, these three male baritones were both eye appealing and ear appealing. Many audiences recorded their singing into the mobile phones. The nurses of the No.9 Hospital said that these songs helped them relax from the strong pressure of work and enabled them to serve the patients in an even better state of mind. The family members of the patients said that this kind of activities could improve the mode of the patients and be of help to their recovery.
After that, the three singers went into the wards and sang a number of Chinese and foreign songs for the patients who were confined to bed. There was an old patient. Although he could neither get up nor speak, he wrote “thank you” stroke by stroke on the writing pad, as well as his comments “good harmony, clear levels”.
In the eyes of the doctors, charity performances of this kind will help the patients relax physically and mentally and will also be beneficial to the doctors. Mr Fan Xianqun, President of Shanghai No.9 People’s Hospital, said that the performance of Vocal Force has delivered a positive energy, which could improve the mode and state of mind of the patients as well as the state of mind of the medical staff and also help harmonize the relationship between the medical staff and patients.
Mr Yao Di, a member of Vocal Force and a teacher of Shanghai Theatre Academy, was also very excited after giving the performance. He said that Vocal Force as a singing group will deliver not only the force of sound and force of sound volume, but fundamentally the force of caring love.
