In the evening of 30 December, at the Children’s Hospital of Fudan University, over 100 inpatient children, as well as their accompanying family members, enjoyed an unexpected happy time, as the hospital thoughtfully organized a Children’s New Year concert for them at which the students of the Shanghai Theatre Academy performed the puppet show for the children enabling them to welcome the 2015 New Year with happiness.
This was the third consecutive year that the Children’s Hospital has organized the New Year concert for the ill children. At this concert, the Shanghai Theatre Academy-Children’s Hospital of Fudan University Puppet Major Performance Practice Base was launched, signifying the formal settlement of the traditionally puppet show in the Children’s Hospital. The students of the Shanghai Theatre Academy’s puppet major will take the Children’s Hospital as their practice classroom and moving stage where they will once a month to give performance in the wards and teach the ill children how to handle puppet. Also, the Shanghai Theatre Academy will hold a large scale performance once every quarter, bringing a feast of classical culture to the ill children including puppet show and musical play etc.
The Children’s Hospital of Fudan University launched the “Care for Ill Children in Hospital” program. Now, the students of the Shanghai Theatre Academy’s puppet major come. They bring to the children the traditional puppet figures that they love to see. While delivering happiness to the children, they also provide the children with the exposure to the traditional culture. More importantly, the fact that they take root at the Children’s Hospital gives a new meaning to the advocacy for greater attention to the medical experience of the ill children and “happy treatment”.
During the Children’s Hospital Children’s New Year Concert 2015, the students of the Shanghai Theatre Academy performed not only puppet show, but also folk music ensemble, international standard dance and classical musical play.
