In the evening of 17 December, sponsored by the Publicity Department of CPC Shanghai Municipal Committee and Shanghai Municipal Administration of Culture, Radio, Film and TV, the awards ceremony of the 6th Shanghai Culture & Arts Award was held at the Shanghai Grand Theatre. Mr Han Zheng, Party Secretary of Shanghai, presented the Lifetime Achievement Award to the 12 winners of the award or their representatives. Mr Yang Xiong, Mayor of Shanghai, together with the other leaders of the Shanghai Municipal People’s Congress, CPPCC Shanghai Municipal Committee and CPC Shanghai Municipal Committee, presented the Outstanding Contribution Award to the 12 winners of the award or their representatives. Before the awards ceremony, the leaders of the Shanghai Municipality received the winners of the Lifetime Achievement Award and the Outstanding Contribution Award for a cordial meeting and had a group photo with them to mark the occasion.
To our great pride, two alumni of the Shanghai Theatre Academy (STA), namely, Mr Jiao Huang and Ms Xi Meijuan, who were the winner of the Lifetime Achievement Award and the Outstanding Contribution Award respectively. When interviewed by the master of ceremony, both Mr Jiao and Ms Xi, with deep passion and profound feeling, thanked STA, i.e. their alma mater, for the nurture and guidance.
Shanghai Culture & Art Award is the highest recognition in Shanghai for culture and arts. Reviving the Shanghai Culture & Arts Award after a 12-year suspension is an important initiative in the implementation of the spirit of President Xi Jinping’s speech at the recent national forum on cultural and art work and is also an active attempt in Shanghai’s pioneering efforts in adopting an honours system for urban culture and arts with the objectives to help boost Shanghai’s cultural development.
Mr Lou Wei, Party Secretary of STA, and other STA officials, attended the awards ceremony, together with over 50 STA student representatives.
