2015 will be the 90th anniversary of Cao Yu’s engagement in theatre and related activities. Co-founded by a number of Cao Ye studies and memorial centres in the five cities of Shanghai, Tianjin, Qianjiang, Chongqin and Jiang’an, the Cao Yu Theatre and Culture Studies and Exchange Consortium (“Cao Consortium”) was established earlier this month in Shanghai and held its first working conference at the Shanghai Theatre Academy. The purpose of establishing the Cao Consortium is to vigorously carry forward Cao Yu’s artistic accomplishments as well as the indigenous cultural treasures created by the Chinese people through the performance, studies and popularization of Cao Yu’s theatrical works. Besides, the Cao Consortium will launch an academic journal called Cao Yu Studies Forum, aiming to strengthen the exchange and cooperation in a number of areas including the performance and studies of Cao Yu’s plays. The Shanghai Theatre Academy will participate in the performance of the relevant plays.
