On 3 December 2014, Mr Dave Gibson, President of New Zealand Film Commission, visited Shanghai Theatre Academy (STA), leading a delegation of twenty senior producers and film industry representatives officially supported by the New Zealand government. Mr Lou Wei, Party Secretary of STA, received the guests, together with Mr Gong Baorong, Vice President, Mr Zhang Jun, Director of President’s Office and Ms Zhang Yunlei, Executive Deputy Director, International Cooperation Office.
The New Zealand film delegation, which was comprised of government officials, industry representatives, educators and artists, represented the integration of industry, education and research. The visit aimed to strengthen the ties between the top producers and other film and television industry representatives of China and New Zealand, thereby fostering the official co-production projects between the two countries under the China-New Zealand film co-production agreement. After showing a short introductory video about STA, Mr Lou Wei and Mr Gong Baorong introduced STA in great detail and expressed to the New Zealand film delegation STA’s strong desire for cooperation in the areas of teacher exchange as well as co-filming and co-production by students etc. Mr Dave Gibson shared same desire for cooperation and hoped that there could be further concrete cooperation in the area of screenwriting. He also advised that the New Zealand Film Commission has recently launched a dedicated development fund for co-production with China and will be fully supportive to the China-New Zealand cooperation.
