Inauguration ceremony of China Film Literature Society’s Screenwriting Theory Committee is held at STA

On 22 November 2014, the inauguration ceremony of China Film Literature Society’s Screenwriting Theory Committee was held successfully at Shanghai Theatre Academy (STA), as well as the committee’s first academy symposium on the history, current situation and future of Chinese film literature. The event was sponsored by the Screenwriting Theory Committee, organized by STA film discipline and co-organized by New Films Magazine.

Prof Huang Changyong, Vice President of STA and senior representatives of China Film Association, Shanghai Cultural Development Foundation, China Film and Media Committee, China Writers Association and Fudan University Film Art Research Centre gave speeches at the ceremony, which was chaired by Prof Li Zhenlin, Convener of STA film discipline and editor-in-chief of Film Studies.

The guests of honour to this event also included senior representatives of Zhejiang University’s Film and TV Animation and Game Studies Centre, New Films Magazine editorial board, Shanghai-Vancouver Film School, Tongji University’s Film Studies Institute, Xiamen University’s College of Humanities, Wenzhou University’s College of Humanities, Xizang University for Nationalities’ College of Journalism and Communication, Bohai University’s College of Arts and Media, and Xiaoyi Municipal Culture, Radio, TV, Press and Publication Bureau of Shaanxi Province.

The symposium received more than 40 papers from several dozens of universities at home and abroad, experts and scholars of film and TV creation and research organizations, PhD and Master students, which were of significant value to the creation, criticism and theoretical framework of films at present.

China Film Literature Society was established in Shanghai in 1983 and has enjoyed a history of more than 30 years so far. It is a National Grade A social group approved for registration by Chinese Ministry of Civil Affairs and has more than 700 individual members currently. Screenwriting Committee is a secondary committee within China Film Literature Society. Under the leadership of China Film Literature Society, the committee aims to bring together scholars and critics engaged in the theoretical research, teaching, criticism and editing of film and TV literature all over China; organize a spectrum of activities of theoretical research, criticism and academic exchange in film and TV literature; continuously promote the in-depth development of theoretical criticism in film and TV as well as the prosperity of film and TV industries.
