Recently, the council meeting of the Shanghai Young Teachers Association & the Young Teachers Salon was held at the Tongji University. Nearly 50 representatives of the institutional council members from the Shanghai Education Trade Union as well as the major universities, district and county-level education bureaus, secondary and primary schools in Shanghai attended the meeting. The council meeting reviewed and approved the articles of association of the Shanghai Young Teachers Association and elected the new president, vice presidents, secretary-general and deputy secretaries-general of the association. Mr Qi Jisong, a teacher of Shanghai Theatre Academy (STA)’s College of Creative Studies, was elected one of the deputy secretaries-general, thus becoming the youngest member of the executive council of the association.
The newly established Shanghai Young Teachers Association was re-structured and re-organized from the former Shanghai Excellent Young Teachers Association and is a NGO that opens to all young teachers in Shanghai. The association aims to (1) proactively lead and encourage young teachers to take up the mission and responsibilities of rejuvenating the nation through science and education and contribute suggestions and recommendations for Shanghai’s and even China’s reform and development in the education sector; (2) build up the platform to foster the exchange and discussion of teaching and research experiences among young teachers, promote the collaboration between industry, education and research and display the positive social image of young teachers; (3) organize different kinds of activities to enrich the after-work cultural life of young teachers, enhance friendship and strengthen the synergy among young teachers as a group; (4) protect the legitimate rights and interests of young teachers, assist with the resolution of difficulties encountered by young teachers in work and life and endeavour to create favourable conditions for the growth and development of young teachers.
