The Experimental Teaching Studio of International Performing Arts focuses on “cultivating performers” and, in the meantime, serves as an internationalized teaching platform of performing arts. It aims to establish a performers’ training system with both international perspectives and Chinese characteristics through the execution of projects that engage the world’s leading artists and art educators for joint studies and joint practice. As the head of the Experimental Teaching Studio of International Performing Arts, Prof He Yan hopes that attracting and cultivating a team of teachers in performing arts with international perspective, artistic aspiration and practical and research capabilities through its collaborative projects is also one of the important tasks of the studio.

The cooperation between the Experimental Teaching Studio of International Performing Arts and Odin Teatret started in May last year. The two sides held the “Introductory Program of Masters’ Practice and Theory – Towards Odin Teatret” with a great success. Eugenio Barba, the famous drama master, delivered a master class in performing arts under the title of “Think in Action”, which included the workshops and lectures in performing arts given by outstanding performers from overseas and professors of University of Rome, as well as the demonstration of five performing works of Odin Teatret. The unique artistic concepts of Odin Teatret as well as the excellent performance of those artists were highly praised by the participants from within and outside the Shanghai Theatre Academy. It is believe that the upcoming demonstration performance will help the domestic drama practitioners and researchers acquire a better knowledge and understanding about Odin Teatret and apply the inspiration drawn from their learning to the local drama practice.
