Sponsored by the Shanghai Theatre Academy and Chinese Film Arts Research Centre and co-organized by the Film Studies Discipline of the Shanghai Theatre Academy and Contemporary Film Magazine with the assistance of the Shanghai Film Association and Shanghai Society of Film, Television and Drama Theories, the Academic Seminar on Sino-Foreign Film Co-production in the New Century was held successfully at the Shanghai Theatre Academy from 1 – 2 November 2014.
The seminar received more than 30 papers from experts, scholars, PhD students and MA students of dozens of universities, film and television creation and research organizations at home and abroad. 39 experts and scholars held exchanges and discussions on the history and current status research, industry and capital research, culture and value research, policy and strategy research, regional research, comprehensive research and case study of Sino-foreign film co-production since the new century as well as the research of its relationship with the internet, providing a summary of the development process of Sino-foreign film co-production in the cultural and industrial context since the new century.
The successful convening of this seminar provided a comprehensive study of the history and current status of film co-production in China as well as a theoretical upgrading in that regard. It not only enriched the academic vision of film studies and conformed to the trend of diversified development in the areas of film creation and research, but also carried a prospective and instructive significance because of its uniqueness and depth.
This seminar was the fifth national conference that STA had held in conjunction with the Chinese Film Arts Research Centre. The gradual course of accumulation over five years has built up an academic brand. This year’s seminar was highly praised by the participants and was an important testimony of the influence of STA’s film studies discipline in China’s film studies circle.
