13 October 2014
From 7 to 10 October 2014, Prof Veronica Lawis, Principal of London Contemporary Dance School (LCDS) and Mr David Steele, Vice Principal of LCDS, visited the Dance College of Shanghai Theatre Academy (STA Dance College). Leaders of STA Dance College, namely, Chen Jianian, Li Haixia and Yang Xinhua, received the guests and held valuable discussion with them. LCDS is part of The Place. Located in the centre of London, The Place brings together artists in dance for mutual exchange and learning. As a cutting-edge dance centre in the UK, it provides professional support to dancers in all stages throughout their career life. It includes the busiest dance theatre in the UK, i.e. the Robin Howard Dance Theatre, which is home to the Richard Alston Dance Company.
During the visit, the two experts from LCDS observed the classes of ballet, Chinese dance, modern dance and ballroom dance at both the STA Dance College and its affiliated dance school, and held discussion with the leaders of STA Dance College regarding dance education. At the conclusion of the meeting, both sides exchanged gifts and expressed the common desire to establish a relationship of in-depth cooperation.
