STA Alumnus Cai Guoqiang's daylight fireworks paints the sky over Huangpu River

On 8 August, Cai Guoqiang launched his first daylight fireworks in China over the Huangpu River in front of the Museum of Contemporary Art Shanghai (MoCA Shanghai) commemorating the opening of his solo exhibition entitled “Cai Guojiang – Phenomenal Sea”. 880 audience and media representatives gathered at the bank of the Huangpu River outside the MoCA Shanghai witnessing how Cai Guoqiang painted the sky with fireworks. With this daylight fireworks show, the storm of “phenomenal sea” brought to Shanghai by Cai Guoqiang started hitting the audience in Shanghai. This art exhibition at the MoCA Shanghai was defined by Cai Guoqiang as bringing the exploration of human-nature relationship and ecological topics back to his “home port”. The exhibition will last until 26 October. Trained in stage design at the Shanghai Theatre Academy, Cai Guoqiang is a famous director of fireworks show and was Director of Visual and Special Effects for the opening and closing ceremonies of the 2008 Beijing Olympic Game.
