From 9 to 17 July, the 2nd Shanghai Senior High School Students Theatre Summer Camp was held at the Shanghai Theatre Academy (STA) 36 drama lovers from eight leading senior high schools in Shanghai participated in the summer camp for the week-long training of basic theatrical skills.
It was the 2nd year that the STA had organized the theatre summer camp for senior high school students on its campus. The first one last year was a great success. This year, STA further improved the deployment of resources for the summer camp. This included the involvement of a number of senior professors and an expanded student volunteer team comprising STA students from different majors such as directing, acting, broadcasting and theatre education.
The number of participating senior high schools also increased from six last year to 8 this year. Also, there was a greater expression of interest from the students. Originally, the enrolment was limited to 4 students for each senior high school, totaling 32 students. But, more than 50 applications were received. In order to guarantee small class teaching and quality of delivery, only 36 students were enrolled in the end.
In the afternoon of 15 July, the closing ceremony and reporting performance was held successfully at STA’s No.1 Gym Room. The students were divided into different groups according to which school they came from to prepare and give the performances including mime, physical play and sketch etc. Their performances were well received by the teachers and audience.
In the future, STA will continue to explore the ways to integrate art with school education. STA will carry forward and deepen the senior high school student theatre summer camp, tailored art curriculum for senior high school and art teacher training as some of its brand-name projects with a view to helping realize the function of art in moral education.
