At the invitation of the School of Drama of the Korea National University of Arts, the Shanghai Theatre Academy sent its experimental play “The Destiny” to participate in the 22nd Youth Theatre Festival hosted at the National University of Arts in Seoul, Korea from 25 to 28 June 2014. This play is a successful project under the Shanghai Education Commission’s Doctoral Student Cross Platform Program and is led by Prof Li Jianping, professor of directing and doctoral student supervisor of STA’s Department of Directing. The key members of the cast were students of the directing major of STA’s College of Continuous Education.

The performance of this play took place in the evening of 27 June. The representative of the National University of Arts made a brief introduction of the play before the performance began. Rich, creative and sophisticated in cultural and artistic form and content as well as theatrical techniques, this play brought a unique experience of appreciating a theatrical performance to the Korean audience.

The key members of the creation team of this play are four doctoral students from the Doctoral Student Cross Platform Program. Although they are not among the cast in terms of their primary functions in the play, they also assumed the acting role to a certain extent. It is believed that in this way, it would increase the interaction and exchange among students of different specializations beyond their own areas of expertise and enable them to understand and apply their specialized theoretical knowledge even better in the process of artistic practice.
