In the afternoon of 19 June, a lecturer entitled “Let dream light up reality – the journey of heart from an actor to a director” was held at the Duanjun Theatre of the Shanghai Theatre Academy (STA). The theatre was a full house and even the corridors were filled with people. The speaker was Mr Xu Zheng, a graduate of STA’s acting department, who acted successfully in a number of hot movies and, later, made a successful transformation from an actor to a director. As a director, his films “Lost on Journey” and “Lost in Thailand” became the box office champion of Chinese language movies.
During his lecture, Mr Xu Zheng recalled with fund memories his time of study at STA. He emphasized on the importance of stage acting as well as the deep understanding of stage and theatre as the base for future endeavours. In a low key manner and with a modest attitude, he interacted closely with the students during the question and answer session. He encouraged the students to expand their professional knowledge and abilities and try to think from the different angles of actor, director and playwright. He hope that the student would cherish their time of study at STA to learn, share, collaborate and make progress in preparation for their future career and artistic pursuit.
