In response to the Social and Artistic Practice Week (SAPW) initiative of the Shanghai Theatre Academy (STA), the STA College of Dance held the SAPW activities at the Lianhua Road campus from 23 to 30 April 2014. SAPW is one of STA’s new initiative of teaching reform with a view to strengthening the cultivation of the students’ abilities in artistic practice and broadening their artistic vision, which has followed the successful organization and hosting of the Rising Artists’ Works 2013 (RAW 2013) as part of the Shanghai International Art Festival last year. All departments and colleges of STA allocated time during the week to hold a variety of activities that integrate theory with practice and classroom with society in the context of their respective disciplines, including workshops, sketch tours and field trips, community surveys, concerts, exhibitions, lectures and contests. The College of Dance, according to its own characteristics and direction of further development, invited the dance specific and cross-discipline experts and scholars from different places in the world to come and provide the students with teaching workshops on body development, acting for Chinese opera, creation and rehearsal, teaching methodology, as well as lectures on the dance history and dance theories.
