Directors of 21 theatre schools in Asia-Pacific are now at the Shanghai Theatre Academy (STA) for the 7th Theatre School Directors’ Conference & Theatre Festival of the UNESCO International Theatre Institute (ITI) Asia-Pacific Bureau (APB). Chinese opera “Back to Life” adapted from a story of the same name by Lu Xun from his collection of stories “Old Tales Retold” was staged at STA’s Duanjun Theatre as the opening performance of the conference.

The importance of theatre education has become increasingly prominent, with increasingly more performing practice and interscholastic exchange activities taking place in and among Asia-Pacific theatre schools. APB’s programs provide its member schools a broad platform to demonstrate and share artistic views and achievements, thereby benefiting the students of the member schools in expanding their artistic vision, The conference this year will last for one week from 10 to 17 May during which time over 20 schools from such countries and regions as China, Korea, Australia, India and Singapore etc. will participate in the theatre school directors’ conference, theatre festival, workshops and academic forums. Of which, the theatre school directors’ conference, which attracts the most attention, will roll out on 14 May, bringing together over 20 theatre school directors for in-depth discussion and exchange of views on the hot topics in the field of theatre education.

UNESCO ITI Asia-Pacific Bureau was established in 2008, with the first theatre school directors’ conference held at STA and attended by 16 schools of high education from 13 countries and regions.
