This month, at the invitation of the Shanghai Theatre Academy (STA)'s Chinese Traditional Opera College, Pep Gatell, the artistic director of La Fura dels Baus, who was also one of the directors for the opening ceremony of the Barcelona Olympic Games, will come to hold the "Process of Creation" Workshop during which he will use the Chinese traditional opera "Lady White Snake" as the script to develop and display a preliminary program of creation process performance. At present, a number of STA studios will be involved in this workshop project of the Chinese Traditional Opera College, including the "Chinese Traditional Opera Innovation Studio" headed by Tian Mansha, "Lighting Laboratory" headed by Xiao Lihe, and "New Media Arts Studio" headed by Liu Zhixin. In order to share the resources within STA, a limited number of placements are now made available for the teachers to recommend high-achieving students or postgraduate students to apply for attendance. The placements will be allocated on the first come first served basis.
As a requirement of the director, the participants are not allowed to be absent throughout the entire duration of the workshop and are not allowed to leave their seats during a workshop session. The time of the workshop is 1.30 pm to 5.30 pm & 6.30 pm to 8.30 pm from 14 April to 3 May, including the days-off on Saturday, Sunday and 1 May. The open display of the preliminary program of creation process performance will be held on 3 May.
Application for attendance should be made by e-mail to tongshantong@163.com with the subject title of "Application for Spanish Directing Master's Workshop" and personal details in the body of the e-mail including college/department, major, name, gender, age and contact details.
The workshop is suitable to students from such majors as new media, acting, directing, lighting and stage design etc. The entire workshop is free of charge for students. The venue of the workshop is Black Box Theatre, Lianhua Road Campus.
