For the first time, the 15th China Shanghai International Art Festival introduced a series of the parent-child activities, and an important one among them was the themed carnival day which began in beautiful Shanghai Children Art Theatre on Oct. 27. This activity was co-started by the organization committee of China Shanghai International Art Festival and Children Art Theatre of China Welfare Institute. An activity called “Let Me Name Birds” was first introduced but received warm welcome from the parents and children in this art festival. The theme of the day was “Let Me Fly with Birds”. Many bird-shaped cards were hung in the huge colorful instrument in the corridor, and children wrote many names they wanted to give to the art festival on the cards. Each name was the beautiful fantasy those children had for the art festival. Cards were swinging in the wind, like numerous birds flying in the sky of the art festival.

The Opera School brought the performance of Peking Opera Portrait in Opera. In only ten-minute performance, the essence of the classical excerpts in Peking Opera is displayed elaborately. The performance won big applause and many parents can’t help shouting “Bravo” for the professional performance of the actors.

The art festival center invited the relatives of the leaders who went to Xinjiang to support the construction there and the pupils from school for children of migrant workers to the carnival performance. The group mentioned comprised more than 50% of the audience. Children whose parents went to Xinjiang to support the construction there would be lack of the attendant of the parents, and the pupils from school for children of migrant workers seldom visits the downtown of Shanghai or watches the performance in the theatre. In this theatre full of audience, every parent and every child smile with happiness.
